Kami Shirt

Wash & Care Guide

Introduction

  • The Kami Shirt is machine washable on a standard cycle.
  • When wet, dark-colored versions of this product may transfer color if rubbed against light-colored clothing. Please wash separately or apart from white and light-colored items.
  • Body oils around the shirt collar may not come out fully in the washing machine, so we recommend pre-treating the area before washing.

What you’ll need

  • Neutral detergent

Washing basics

Yamatomichi products use a wide range of functional fabrics and materials, and each one performs best when cared for properly.

Before you get started, it’s worth checking the three basic care points at the top of our Care page. They’re a good guide for choosing the right care method for each item.

Washing method

1. Use the appropriate amount of neutral detergent. Do not use fabric softener or bleach. Depending on the type, fabric softeners can coat the fibers and interfere with the fabric’s performance, while bleach can cause color loss or fading.

2. To prevent detergent stains or uneven washing, do not pour detergent directly onto the product. Add it through the detergent drawer, or after the washing machine has filled with water.

3. This product can be washed on a standard machine cycle. When wet, dark-colored versions may transfer color if rubbed against light-colored clothing, so wash separately or apart from white and light-colored items. Detergent residue can affect the fabric’s performance, so rinse at least twice.

Tip: Spot cleaning before machine washing

For areas where sweat or body oils tend to build up, such as the collar, spot clean before washing or apply a pre-treatment detergent and let it sit. For stubborn stains or yellowing that still do not come out, use a professional stain removal service at a dry cleaner.

1. Fill a bucket or bathtub with lukewarm water, around 40°C. Add the appropriate amount of neutral detergent and stir to create suds, then soak the product and gently hand wash the stained areas.

2. If you have a pre-treatment detergent, apply it directly to the stained areas and let it sit before putting the product in the washing machine.

Tips for drying

Air drying
Hang dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.

Using a dryer
A dryer can be used on a low-temperature setting, up to 60°C. To avoid damaging this product or other wear, and to allow it to dry thoroughly, dry it separately.
