To the Edge of the Midnight Sun – 600km Across Iceland
with No Resupply by Oji Sonoda

Photo Exhibition at Yamatomichi Kyoto, March 1st – March 24nd, 2025

In the summer of 2024, Oji, from Yamatomichi Kamakura, embarked on a bold challenge—a 600km trek across Iceland with no resupply. Starting from the northernmost lighthouse, Hraunhafnartangi, and ending at the southernmost lighthouse, Dyrhólaey, he walked through some of the most remote and unforgiving landscapes on Earth.

Armed with only what he could carry, Oji pushed through extreme weather, isolation, and rugged terrain, documenting every step of his journey. The result is a striking collection of photographs that capture Iceland’s raw, untouched beauty—a land of endless horizons, volcanic desolation, and midnight sun.

Starting March 1, Yamatomichi Kyoto will host a photo exhibition showcasing Oji’s journey. More than just a visual record, the exhibition serves as an exploration of ultralight hiking—a philosophy of self-sufficiency, resilience, and deep connection with nature.

Throughout the exhibition, Oji will be present at the venue, offering firsthand stories from his adventure. Visitors will also have the opportunity to reserve and purchase photographs from the collection.

To further immerse audiences in the experience, a talk event and social gathering will be held during the exhibition period, offering a deeper look into the world of long-distance UL hiking and solo exploration.

Please note: The exhibition is open to everyone, regardless of your Japanese level. However, please be aware that Oji does not speak English at a native level.

For those who have ever dreamed of venturing into the unknown, this exhibition is an invitation to witness the journey through the eyes of someone who walked it.
