A practical guide to hiking lighter
Yamatomichi’s Introduction to Ultralight Hiking is now available
At Yamatomichi, we see ultralight hiking not simply as reducing what you carry, but as an ongoing experiment—one that involves understanding your body, learning from nature, and finding the freedom to move with only what you truly need.
We’ve brought that thinking together in Yamatomichi’s Introduction to Ultralight Hiking, a practical guide that outlines both the philosophy and the methods behind our approach.
From the core ideas that shape ultralight hiking to clear, actionable steps for lightening your pack, this guide is designed to help you move from understanding to practice.

Making Yamatomichi HLC workshops more accessible
At Yamatomichi, we run the HLC (Hiking Life Community) across different regions to support and grow the culture of ultralight hiking.
Until now, participation in our hands-on HLC workshops required completing an in-person UL Hiking for beginners course.
Going forward, anyone can apply to join a workshop by reading Yamatomichi’s Introduction to Ultralight Hiking, understanding the ideas and approach, and creating their own gear list.
