Washing basics

Yamatomichi products use a wide range of functional fabrics and materials, and each one performs best when cared for properly.

Before you get started, it’s worth checking the three basic care points at the top of our Care page. They’re a good guide for choosing the right care method for each item.

Washing method

1. Use the appropriate amount of neutral detergent. Do not use fabric softener or bleach. Depending on the type, fabric softeners can coat the fibers and interfere with the fabric’s performance, while bleach can cause color loss or fading.

2. To prevent detergent stains or uneven washing, do not pour detergent directly onto the product. Add it through the detergent drawer, or after the washing machine has filled with water.

3. This product can be washed on a standard machine cycle. When wet, dark-colored versions may transfer color if rubbed against light-colored clothing, so wash separately or apart from white and light-colored items. Detergent residue can affect the fabric’s performance, so rinse at least twice.

Tips for drying

Air Drying
Hang dry in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight.

Tumble Drying
Tumble dry on low heat (maximum 60°C). To prevent damage, tangling, or loss of shape and ensure thorough drying, tumble dry the product by itself.

DWR Care

After washing away dirt and body oils, dry the product thoroughly. Then apply heat with an iron, hairdryer, or tumble dryer to reactivate its water repellency. The DWR treatment gradually wears off through friction and repeated washing. If heat no longer restores the water repellency, apply a DWR treatment designed for outdoor apparel or have it professionally reapplied by a cleaner.

Using a Tumble Dryer
After washing, allow the product to dry thoroughly, then tumble dry it by itself on low heat (maximum 60°C) for approximately 20–30 minutes.

Using a Hairdryer
Hold the hairdryer approximately 15 cm away and apply warm air evenly across the product. Do not use high heat too close to the fabric.

Using an Iron
Iron directly on the fabric at a low temperature without a pressing cloth. Higher temperatures may melt or discolor the fabric.

Do not iron directly over buttons, other components, or printed areas, as this may cause them to deform or peel.
